I found it interesting when they started talking about banning certain kinds of foods from being sold in certain areas. It’s a method of control of obesity, and some government institutions have actually made it illegal to sell certain types of foods in certain areas. Now my main argument would be you don’t have the right to tell me what I can and cannot eat. I will eat whatever I want and suffer the consequences. But when other people are basically paying your medical bills through their taxes, they may well have something else to say about it.
This being said, KFC stores have been banned in many urban areas, not even being able to offer grilled chicken, which is supposed to be a healthier alternative for obvious reasons. Many in Memphis, Tennessee are apparently taking real offense to this, apparently thinking along my same lines. Now the truth is that there is a common idea that many African Americans in the area are eating largely fried chicken as the basis for their diet, and this is causing greater obesity rates. It may be largely true, it may not. I really couldn’t say. But either way, this kind of government control is making people angry for obvious reasons, and I for one know I definitely don’t agree with it.
