Obesity, it’s something we like to think exists worldwide, and it does to some degree. There are obese people in every country including Japan, consider the sumo wrestlers who are somewhat glorified. This being said, there are questions why it is a worldwide epidemic. Actually I wouldn’t call it that. I would call it an American epidemic and a worldwide problem. The American rates stand above 50%, in women it’s 2/3 in fact according to the latest reports.
That being said, the closest competitor comes in at about 23%. So……I wouldn’t exactly call it a worldwide epidemic. This being said, the world is busier than before, and more people have access to commercial fast food than ever before, more people are eating it on the run because they think that’s their cheapest and best option in general. Therefore, the obesity rates will keep growing everywhere. But obviously, they are not growing as quickly as the American obesity rates. I think we as Americans want to feel like everybody is in the same boat with us. But the sooner we realize that’s just not the case, I think the sooner we will be able to face facts and more importantly change the facts.
